The Times alleges OpenAI and Microsoft copied millions of its articles without license to train GPT models, and that ChatGPT can reproduce Times content nearly verbatim. Judge Stein largely denied the motion to dismiss on April 4, 2025, holding fair use could not be resolved on the pleadings.
