Latest development · July 20, 2026

Sony Music filed a separate new action against Uncharted Labs in the S.D.N.Y. on July 20, 2026 (1:26-cv-06120), following the July 15 target date for the personal-jurisdiction ruling in the original case. UMG settled October 29, 2025; Warner dismissed November 25, 2025.

Executive summary

Companion to the Suno case: labels allege Udio's generator was trained on their recordings without license. Two of the three majors have since converted litigation into licensing partnerships, leaving Sony to seek the precedent.

Why it matters

Demonstrates the settle-and-license endgame pattern, and its jurisdiction ruling will decide whether the remaining claims proceed in New York at all.
