Micky Tripathi

Legacy & significance

Tripathi has spent his career on the unglamorous but consequential work of making health data actually move between systems, first from the policy side as the U.S. government's top health IT official, and now from inside a leading hospital system, applying that same interoperability and governance discipline to how AI gets deployed in clinical care.

Major achievements & key works

• National Coordinator for Health IT, HHS/ONC (2021-2024). Led the federal office setting national policy for electronic health records, interoperability standards, and, later in his tenure, transparency requirements for AI used in certified health IT.
• HTI-1 rule on AI transparency in health IT (2024). Under his leadership, ONC finalized the first federal rule requiring transparency disclosures for predictive AI algorithms embedded in certified electronic health record systems.
• Leading the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative. Built one of the earliest large-scale regional health information exchange efforts in the U.S. before his federal role.
• Chief AI Implementation Officer, Mayo Clinic. Brings federal AI-governance experience directly into deployment decisions at one of the country's leading health systems.
